THE NEW YEAR OF VICTORY (2011)

This poem was published in a primary school magazine probably submitted by a pupil and the first time I read it I just fell in love with it and thought about sharing with my readers. Enjoy

A downing moment for all,
Social day for the local and global,
A sign of new opportunity for the mortal,
A half year for the business fiscal,
A new draft of the calendar,
A new age for everyone,
And new hope for the optimistic

The year 2009 perhaps two thousand and nine,
But not two thousand and mine,
A time for Usain Bolt to shine,
For Michael Jackson to follow the line,
With the fallen greats to wine and dine,

But lo! And Behold!
A new year from our Lord God,
A mirage of yesterday,
The yester’s two thousand and then,
Is today’s two thousand and eleven.
A time to awaken
For placement of the displaced,
For resettlement of the unsettled,
Development of the undeveloped.
A year for the candidates to shine,
A time of repent for the fallen
And time to resurrect our patience and love as Kenyans,
A year of Love, Peace and Unity,
Of giving in kind
And leaving the past behind!

They Rule The Streets

They will tell you, "if the music is too loud, guess what? you are too old, these you get from the "crew", who use vulgar words to anybody except the police and the city council askaris. They flaunt the roads of east lands with signs “Picture me rolling; they are the Prime East Sacco "Matatus" plying the busy "Jogoo road" of Nairobi destination Kayole. 90% of the customers are youths, they are attracted to these "Matatus", because of the swag that comes with them, even though the fare is a little bit expensive than other "Matatus". No youth will like to be seen alighting from any old "Matatu" than the latest hit in town.This is so common to the girls and ladies from these parts of town. First things first, you get them in the downtown area of Nairobi commonly behind the infamous OTC stage, I guess the city council gave them this place because the rest of Nairobi cannot live up with the noise pollution
